1st look at Dollhouse star as Being Human's new vampire royalty

The second-season premiere of Syfy's breakout hit series Being Human is less than two weeks away, so it's time to take your first, awesome look at its newest vampire character (royalty, no less!), played by Dollhouse's Dichen Lachman.

We've been a fan of the actress since her Dollhouse days as Sierra on FOX and thought that her one-episode appearance in last summer's Torchwood: Miracle Day—though highly memorable—was way too short.

So we were excited last summer to learn the actress had joined the cast of Being Human.

Lachman plays Suren, a vampire royal who'll be revealed to have a ''complicated past'' with our resident vampire hunk Aidan, played by Sam Witwer.

Executive producer Jeremy Carver revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that "the seeds of the character were put in place last season amongst the writers." He adds:

"She's been away for a very long time and her reappearance on the scene, for Aidan—a guy who is always trying desperately to divorce himself from vampires and vampire-ism—she's the worst temptation to come down the pike. Part of it is the romantic past that they share."

"You've got this incredibly beautiful actress who commands the screen and when you're introduced to her, she's all but unrecognizable and that plays very much into the old past she has and it speaks directly to her troubled nature."

We all know what that means, right? Yep. Flashbacks. To the 1930s, to be exact. Carver says flashbacks will "unpack this explosive history between Aidan and Suren." He also reveals that the pair's past relationship will be ''explored in great detail'' and that "past events are very much exploding into the present now.''

We're pretty sure it'll also mean a boatload of trouble for ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath) and werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington), who also have their own supernatural (and non-supernatural) problems to face. But we say—bring it on!

Being Human premieres Monday, Jan. 16, at 9 p.m. Will you watch?
