Star Wars 1313 developer reveals why protagonist isn't a Jedi

The super-secret new videogame Star Wars 1313 generated some buzz at the recent E3 videogame expo, and the developers have managed to keep a lot of the finer points under wraps. One thing we had heard is that the protagonist would not be a Jedi. Now we know why.

The game's creative director, Dominic Robillard, recently opened up to the Official Playstation Magazine and revealed why they decided not to make the main character a Jedi. Basically, they wanted the game to be a bit more realistic (or as realistic as a game set in the Star Wars universe can be), so they've opted for a regular guy this time around:

"The demi god complex that you've maybe seen or expect, frankly, from a Jedi game is definitely one vision of what playing in the Star Wars universe could be like ... "[But our ideal protagonist is] someone who was more grounded, and that meant ultimately having a character who was bound by the range of human ability, but that still gets to do amazing things through his gear, his gadgets and how he gets to use the level design."

For a few more details on what to expect when this thing eventually hits shelves, here's the official synopsis from LucasArts:

"Named for Level 1313, a ruthless criminal underground deep below the surface of the planet of Coruscant, the game puts players in control of a deadly bounty hunter as he uses an arsenal of exotic weaponry to hunt down his marks and uncover the truth surrounding a criminal conspiracy. Star Wars 1313 emphasizes epic set pieces and fast-paced combat with a hero who uses human skills and gadgets, rather than supernatural Force powers, to make his way through this dangerous world."
The game is slated for release sometime in 2013.
