11 of the most geektastic Super Bowl trailers and commercials

Every year, the Super Bowl is a forum for competition of the finest caliber. Teams of very talented individuals vying for your affection, hoping that you'll buy whatever it is they're selling. Yes, we're talking about the ads, those million-dollar blips that can be either brilliant or baffling. And here are the ones designed to tickle our Nerd Cortex.

In case you were at a Super Bowl party filled with people who didn't know how bloody important it is to shut the heck up during the commercials and you missed what many might say is the best part of the 17-hour broadcast, here's the creme de la creme.

The Avengers

"I have an army." "We have a Hulk." EFF YEAH.

Audi "Vampire Party"

If only killing these sparkly, diary-keeping bloodsuckers was this easy ...

Star Wars in 3D

Making this more of an ad for the whole franchise, and not simply Phantom Menace, made this slightly more intriguing. But only slightly. Because there's still podracing.

Chevy Silverado "Apocalypse"

I'm a sucker for post-apocalpytic landscapes, especially ones created by asteroid strikes and alien invasions. Still, I'm not sure I want these yahoos repopulating the globe with the zero women present.

Battleship

It's the Transformers 3.5 you didn't know you didn't want. Okay, to be fair, there's plenty of stuff blowing up, and that counts for something.

Transformers the Ride 3D

Speaking of more Transformers you didn't want, there's now a ride at Universal Hollywood where robots yell at you for money.

John Carter

Not much new to see here, but it doesn't really matter. You've already made up your mind if you're in or not.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

I could've used less "immortal words of Jay-Z" and more exploding of vehicles and buildings, but they sorta had me at cliffside ninja battle.

Met Life: Everyone

Basically, it's just a parade of everything I dug when I was seven. And who doesn't love a parade?

Hulu "Hulubratory"

What, there are aliens?

Volkswagen "The Dog Strikes Back"

Yeah, it's old news, we know. But completists will do what completists will do.
