George R.R. Martin sneaks pages from next Game of Thrones novel

To cap off a year that saw both the publication of the long-awaited fifth novel in Martin's Song of Ice and Fire saga, A Dance With Dragons, and the premiere of HBO's Emmy-winning TV adaptation, the author has let slip a chapter of his upcoming The Winds of Winter. Savor, at your peril.

Because there's no telling when the rest of the book will come. So, either this little snippet of Westeros will whet your appetite or it'll frustrate the hell out of you, knowing that it could be years before you can read the rest of it.

Here's what Martin had to say about it on his blog:

As a Christmas gift to all my loyal fans and readers, I've just replaced the (long published) sample chapters from A Dance With Dragons on my website with an unpublished sample chapter from The Winds of Winter.

Go ye to "Ice & Fire Sample" on my website and enjoy.

(The chronology, as usual, is tricky. This chapter will be found eventually at the beginning of Winds, but as you will be able to tell from context, it actually takes place before some of the chapters at the end of Dance).

Head on over here to read it. No reason for us to spoil Martin's holiday treat.
