(UPDATE: IGN is reporting a second season has not been greenlit.)
AMC is apparently pretty confident about its new zombie series The Walking Dead, because it's already ordered a second season before anyone's even seen a full episode. And executive producer Frank Darabont has a lot of ideas about what he wants to do with that second season, according to ComicBookMovie.com:
"It would be great not just to get out of the heat, but to present a different idea to the audience visually and tonally by having it be winter. There's some really cool stuff that Kirkman did, where they find the one zombie that's frozen to the ground. I'd never seen that before, and that's really cool."
And it gets better. Darabont's enthusiasm about the appearance of the comic's ninja-sword-wielding character Michonne is, well, awesome:
"Boy, is she a character I can't wait to get to--when she comes striding out of the wasteland like a Clint Eastwood f-cking spaghetti western character cross-melded with some samurai movie, like the Baby Cart character with the f-cking sword, and there's just a little drift of snow in the air. I would love to put that on film."
The Walking Dead walked out of Comic-Con early this year with by far the best buzz of any new TV series, and everyone (including us) seems to like the recently released trailer. With a guaranteed second season this has now become the must-watch TV event of the year. We'll all get to see when it debuts Oct. 31 (of course).
