New John Carter and Harry Potter posters leave us puzzled

We've seen some terrible posters in our time. Two new posters, one for the upcoming John Carter and one for the last Harry Potter installment, aren't terrible. But they're not very good either.

The first is for John Carter, which IndieWire calls "deeply uninteresting." That's the least of its problems. The poster is not only completely information-free (the movie is about a 19th-century soldier who winds up on Mars, where he becomes embroiled in a Martian civil war), but also it's inaccurate: The initials on the poster "JCM" reflect the original name of the movie, John Carter of Mars, not the new "Mars"-free title.

The second poster is for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. It's just plain unattractive. Ron and Hermione look weird and awkward, and considering the distance between them and Harry, they seem comparatively tiny. Also, the background is indistinct. It would have been better to have left them out of the image, rather than represent these not-so-minor characters so poorly. Only the bedraggled Harry shines.

We're puzzled. We thought Hollywood could afford the good graphic artists.

So what do you think about them?
