Will all the apes in Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2 talk?

Given what we know about the Planet of the Apes saga—and that, eventually, the ape society is full of a bunch of chatty Cathys—it only makes sense that the sequel to this past summer's surprise hit would start connecting the dots from Ceasar's mostly mute clan to the future. Right?

Well, maybe. See, the screenwriters behind Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, found real inspiration in the simian silence, and they're wrestling with changing that for the next installment. As they said on a recent podcast interview:

"We're working on the sequel right now, to the prequel, and so the excitement is—I'm not gonna tell you, but—are they gonna talk or not? Part of the challenge was how to get across what was happening between the apes without words. In the end I think it was a good challenge for us. It created better storytelling."

Me, I'm hoping we get some monkeys who aren't afraid to speak a little evil ... unlike their counterparts in the 1968 original:
