Get ready for Thrones S2 with the most detailed map of Westeros ever

Winter is coming for the characters of Westeros, the world of George R.R. Martin's series A Song of Ice and Fire. For us television viewers, Game of Thrones season two is also coming, sometime in April 2012. And we'd all better be prepared.

In the book's opening pages—and the television's show's wonderful opening—we get to see maps of Westeros. But the maps in the books are broken down into several pages. Fan, artist and cartographer Ron Guyatt came to a map-reader's rescue by collating all of the data and turning it into one awesome piece of art:

This map took over 40+ Hours to assemble. It is referenced from over 20 pre-existing maps

It was made in Photoshop CS4 and I used nearly a dozen Photographic Textures that I made myself. as well as several brushes I designed for this piece....

To my knowledge this is the most complete map ever made from the series as most preexisting maps only have main points of interest or focused on a specific region.

Without giving TOO much away, season two is about the fallout concerning the events of season one, such as [spoiler alert!] the death of King Robert Baratheon. In it, we expect to meet the book's multitude of characters and join our heroes as they travel the length and breadth of Westeros.

A map like this very definitely comes in handy.

For a closer look at the map, check out below. And if you like what you see, you'll be able to buy it off of Guyatt's Etsy page for $20.
