Eric Stoltz was not the only loser in Back to the Future recasting

The 1985 movie Back to the Future is famous for its likable humor and its blink-and-you'll-miss-it time-travel alterations ... as well as for director Robert Zemeckis' decision to replace star Eric Stoltz after five weeks of shooting. But it turns out that Stoltz wasn't the only actor to get the ax.

Actress Melora Hardin was originally cast as Marty McFly's girlfriend, Jennifer Parker. But when Stoltz was replaced, so was Hardin.

According to an interview with Wired, Hardin said,

"I just remember getting a phone call in my parents' kitchen, Bob Gale and Zemeckis both called me. They said, 'Unfortunately we had to let Eric go and we think you're too tall for the new guy we cast. His name is Michael J. Fox, but you'll be towering over him. This has nothing to do with you, we think you're lovely.' I burst into tears."

Because the role of Jennifer is actually a small part, Hardin never got a chance to film any of her scenes, so we won't be seeing her along with any Stoltz footage. In fact, the only evidence she has of her Back to the Future role is some publicity photos.

If you visit her IMDB page, you'll see that Hardin has had steady work even without Back to the Future cred. She's best known for her roles in Monk and The Office.
