Doomed Game of Thrones star confirms that season 3 is a go

Just last week we heard a rumor that HBO was telling the Game of Thrones crew to stick around, because they could be shooting two more seasons very soon. Now one of the show's stars confirms he's headed back to work for season three, and he's already preparing for his death scene. SPOILERS AHEAD!

The news comes from none other than Charles Dance, who plays the patriarch of the ultra-powerful Lannister family, Lord Tywin. According to Dance, the war in Westeros could resume filming as early as late spring of 2012.

"We finished [filming] season two. I think that will air in February or March of next year, and we will start shooting season three in May or June of next year," he said.

We already know that seasons three and four will likely come together to tell the story of A Storm of Swords, the 1,000-plus-page behemoth of a book that comes third in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga. That book is filled with royal bloodshed, and Dance said he's already heard that Lord Tywin is among the casualties.

"Devotees of the books have told me that I have a very spectacular death, not next season but possibly the season afterwards," he said. "I'm not going to tell you what that is, but it's a death scene the like of which I've never had before, anyway."

So we'll have to wait for season four to see Lord Tywin bite the dust. Those of us who've read the books already know what's coming. The rest of you can either catch up on your reading or just sit back and enjoy all the bloody awesomeness of season two when Game of Thrones returns in the spring.
