Star Trek's Nazi episode finally airs in Germany for the 1st time

Classic Trek was big on the "alternate Earth" stories: a planet that echoes an unchecked Roman empire ("Bread and Circuses"), an alien culture modeled after gangsters ("A Piece of the Action") and so on. But "Patterns of Force," where Kirk and Spock must infiltrate alien Nazis, hasn't ever aired on German public TV.

Until now.

Even though World War II had been over for 23 years when "Patterns of Force" first hit American airwaves, the German government was still very sensitive about its Nazi past and refused to allow this episode of Star Trek to air on free public TV. (It did, however, air on pay cable during the '90s.)

But last week it aired on regular old TV—at 10 p.m., complete with a warning that it might not be suitable for younger viewers.
