Rumor of the Day: Bruce Willis will star in a Neuromancer film

WIlliam Gibson's landmark 1984 novel—which won almost every award a science fiction book can win and added the word cyberspace to the common tongue—has been bandied about as a film for years. Is Bruce Willis finally the man to make it happen?

If you believe producer Peter Hoffman, Willis is already on board. Hoffman has been raising money for a Neuromancer adaptation at this year's American Film Market, claiming that Willis and Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura are attached.

Thing is, according to IndieWire, Willis' agents at CAA will only confirm that the actor is "currently reading the script," which is probably still about a street-level hacker in a futuristic Japan trying to get his mojo back while finding a way to get a poisonous ticking bomb out of his system placed there by a nefarious client.

It's unclear if Splice's Vincent Natali is still on deck to direct. Then again, it's also unclear if this is a real thing.

Gibson, though, would be happy to see Willis in Neuromancer:
