Trailer for latest Studio Ghibli movie shows its Borrowed roots

Do you think the movies of Hayao Miyazaki and his animation production company, Studio Ghibli, are 2-D perfection? Do you think My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies deserve their spots on Roger Ebert's "Great Movies" list? If so, we have great news: The trailer for the upcoming movie The Secret World of Arriety is here.

And if you're not a fan or have no idea what we're talking about, well, the trailer is awesome anyway.

You may know Miyazaki from his movies Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Ponyo. But that's only a sliver of his body of work, which includes the astonishing Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Kiki's Delivery Service and, of course, My Neighbor Totoro. His production company also puts out excellent work; Grave of the Fireflies stands along with Schindler's List as one of the most painful looks at World War II.

Back to The Secret World of Arriety.

This movie, which will be released on Feb. 17, 2012, was written by Miyazaki but directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi. It's based on a series of books called The Borrowers, by Mary Norton.

Sidenote: The Borrowers has been adapted several times before ... and there happens to be another version in production now, starring Christopher Eccleston and Stephen Fry.

Check out the trailer and see for yourselves why we're so excited.
