The trailer for Marvel's The Avengers broke download records from the day it hit the web, so it's no surprise that some of the millions of people who watched it were ready to have a little fun. Take Bryan Harley, who engineered a crazy, funny and detailed low-budget remake of the trailer that has everything from toy car explosions to cardboard skyscrapers.
The Avengers trailer—sweded is an entry for Swedefest 8, a twice-yearly film festival dedicated to "sweded" flicks. "Sweded," in case you're not familiar, is a term from the flick Be Kind Rewind, and describes a low-budget, homemade summary or remake of a film copied over the actual film. The excuse for why it looks so crappy? It's from Sweden!
It sounds silly, but in this case the results are well worth the effort. Not only do Harley and company take great pains to re-create the shots and special effects from the trailer, but they also insert their own little moments of goofiness, including changing the lyrics to the trailer song to include the line "We are like the Justice League! But we're not the Justice League!" and throwing in a comment at the very end that most of us were thinking when we watched the real trailer.
Check out the video. It'll make you wish these guys would do the same thing again when the flick comes out.
