Prometheus star says it IS part of the Alien franchise after all

Just how tied Ridley Scott's Prometheus is to his classic Alien and the flicks that followed it has been something of an open question for a while now. All we really know is we can't wait to see it. But now one of the film's stars—Rafe Spall—says he's definitely been working on an "Alien set."

In an interview for his new film Anonymous, Spall says details about the film are still being kept quiet, but while he got the memo on what he's allowed to spill, he didn't actually read it. So here's what we get:

"[Ridley Scott] directed the first Alien, and this is ... I've been sent an e-mail about what I'm allowed to say and what I'm not allowed to say and I haven't read the e-mail. (laughs). It's out next June, and it's part of the Alien franchise. I'm in it, and Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. I think fans of the franchise will love it. Alien is one of the best films ever made, and it's a real buzz to be in a space suit on an Alien set with Ridley Scott coming and speaking to you. It's incredible. That's why I wanted to be an actor, to be in a space suit on an Alien set."

It's not really a spoiler, but it is a bit of insight into the very secretive flick. Even if it is a film planted squarely in the Alien franchise, we still don't know just how much of the familiar Alien mythos we'll wind up seeing, and on that front Spall is definitely not talking:

"I've seen nothing. Really, they keep it all under closed wraps and don't let anyone see anything [...] There's a few bits and pieces(referring to the leaked stills and images), but they want to keep it secret. They're very protective of it."

So what does this mean for what we might see on screen next June? How close to Alien can this film play it while still standing on its own?
