Michael Shannon, the Oscar-nominated actor who was chosen by director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan to be the Big Bad in Man of Steel, taunts the spoiler gods by revealing a little about his Kryptonian tussle with Crowe as Clark Kent's natural dad, Jor-El.
Details are scant about this fight scene, but, since it features Zod and Jor-El—who, according to Superman lore, never leaves his homeworld—we're pretty sure it takes place before the destruction of Krypton. As Shannon told Digital Spy:
"He was trying to fight me....We do have a fight sequence in the film. We worked on it for a long time, we rehearsed it for a long time, then you shoot it and it's done. It's kind of strange to put all this work into something that's going to be maybe a minute long [on film]. But if you're gonna fight with someone, he's a good fella to fight with. He knows what he's doing."
As for Henry Cavill, Shannon hasn't worked with the new Superman much:
"I've shot exactly one scene with Henry so far. We have a lot together, we just haven't shot it yet. He seems very appropriate for the part, he's a big fella and he's very handsome and charming, so it's certainly understandable why they cast him. But I'll always have a soft spot for Christopher Reeve."
Don't we all.
