The Amazing Spider-Man's Denis Leary: Bat-fan, Andrew Garfield lover

Denis Leary may star in next year's The Amazing Spider-Man, but his heart belongs to the caped crusader. Captain Stacy's alter ego is a big fan of DC's Batman, but he's still got plenty of love for his Spidey co-stars.

While promoting the latest (and final) season of FX's Rescue Me, Denis Leary spoke about his next big gig—The Amazing Spider-Man. The actor and comedian, who's known for his brutal honesty, revealed that he didn't grow up idolizing the Marvel webslinger.

When asked about his thoughts on Sony rebooting the franchise less than a decade after the original, Leary said, "I didn't give a sh*t. I'm not really a Spider-Man fan. I'm more of a Batman guy." In a weird way, didn't we all suspect that?

Even though Leary's into the brooding antihero, he claims that the new Spider-Man will have "a pretty dark vision" of the character. He continued, "It's a darker story, but there are some very funny things in it. Some of them were scripted, and some of them came out of the work."

In The Amazing Spider-Man, Leary's George Stacy can't stand Peter Parker, and he doesn't try to hide it. But how does Leary feel about Andrew Garfield? He said, "I loved Andrew. I really did. I thought he was great. He's terrific in the role. He was trained as a gymnast, when he was growing up in England, which came in handy. "

Garfield was a gymnast? We want to see him do a few back handsprings!

The Amazing Spider-Man opens in theaters July 3.
