A Doncaster (England) man has just broken a Guinness world record with a whopping collection of 571 Daleks. Yes, 571 Daleks. And it's the largest collection featuring our favorite space pepperpots in the world. Funny thing is ... the guy's not even a Doctor Who fan.
Forty-nine-year-old Rob Hull counts, among his prize possessions—lovingly accumulated through 20 years of passionate collecting—a stunning 6-foot life-size replica model that would make any rabid Doctor Who fan green with envy. At least we know we are. Very, very green.
And as we said, the man's not even remotely interested in the popular sci-fi series! So why is he collecting Daleks?
Hull says he's been fascinated with the Doctor's greatest nemeses ever since he saw one in a toy store when he was a child.
"I've never been a fan of the show, but I have been enchanted by the Daleks ever since I saw one in a toy store as a child.
"My mum wouldn't buy it for me, but I swore at that moment that I'd have my own one day."
(It's always when someone tells you NO, right? You know then that you just HAVE to have it, no matter what.)
So at age 29, Hull bought his first Dalek, and since then his collection has invaded his home (good thing they didn't exterminate him instead).
You'd think anyone would be happy to be included in Guinness' 2012 book of world records, but there's actually one person who's really unhappy about this, and it's the missus. (Isn't it always so?)
"I hate the bloody things,'' says Hull's wife, Dawn. ''And I've got a feeling this is only going to encourage him."
