When Eureka's cancellation was announced Tuesday, everybody feared the show would come to an abrupt end, since the series was in the middle of filming its fifth and final season. Luckily, Syfy ordered one more episode, which will hopefully allow for (as one of the stars put it) "closure."
Eureka co-creator and showrunner Jamie Paglia tweeted the news earlier:
Thrilled that our network and studio are giving us another episode to make a #Eureka series finale. The fans and show deserve it. Thank you.
According to Erica Cerra (Deputy Jo Lupo), thanks to that additional episode order, Eureka's writers "have the opportunity to give us and the viewers closure—they've been loyal, loyal fans for years."
And even in the midst of sadness, Colin Ferguson (Sheriff Jack Carter) asked that fans celebrate, because "We have a great season coming up—17 episodes left to air. ... Take a moment, get sad if you want to get sad, but there's some really great work coming. I'm really proud of it. ... We worked really hard on it. I'd love it if instead of a tone of sadness people could watch it and go out on a tone of joy."
