Caesar beats the $%#! out of a jerk in new Rise of the Apes clip

Is there anything that Andy Serkis can't do? The actor introduces this special extended clip from Rise of the Planet of the Apes where his character Caesar goes ape$%#! on a neighbor who he believes is attacking his caregiver.

And before we go on, can we just acknowledge the awesomeness of John Lithgow in this role? Seeing Dick Solomon from 3rd Rock from the Sun in anything sci-fi is a plus in our book. Secondly, the special effects used for Caesar, specifically his face and hands, are extremely impressive.

In this clip, it's revealed that Lithgow's character, Charles Rodman, is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He mistakenly gets into his neighbor's car, which he thinks is his, and essentially shifts it around like a bumper car. As you might suspect, this infuriates the car's owner, who lunges after him in a rage.

Caesar sees the confrontation from the attic window and decides to break free and protect his friend. The end result is him drop-kicking the neighbor off a porch and the whole block circling him and Charles.

Can you blame him? From an outside perspective, Caesar has no idea of the circumstances surrounding the argument between Charles and the neighbor. All he saw was pointing and aggression, and he reacted the way any animal would. You can take the ape out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the ape. Zing!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens on Aug. 5.
