Will Julia Ormand be Superman's Kryptonian mom in Man of Steel?

Seems as if Russell Crowe finally has a Kryptonian mate. Jor-El's wife and Superman's (Henry Cavill) biological mother has been found, and it's Julia Ormond. The cast of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel just keeps getting better and better!

Ormond is in talks to play Lara Lor-Van in Man of Steel, and if she accepts the part, Clark Kent's parental quad will be complete. Kevin Costner and Diane Lane have already signed on to play Jonathan and Martha Kent, Superman's adoptive mom and dad.

In the past, some pretty talented actors have played Superman's parents, and Man of Steel is sticking with tradition. In Richard Donner's Superman I and II, Marlon Brando and Susannah York played Jor-El and Lara, while Glenn Ford and Phyllis Thaxter played Jonathan and Martha.

And we can't forget about Oscar winner Eva Marie Saint, who played Mrs. Kent in Superman Returns. Even though that film annoyed the heck out of us, her part was pure gold.

Prior to Ormond, there were rumors that Connie Nielsen, who co-starred with Crowe in Gladiator, was a frontrunner for Lara. We're not sure what happened with that, but we're definitely pleased with the alternative.

The rest of the Man of Steel cast includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon as General Zod. Now all we need is Perry White and Jimmy Olsen to round out the major players.

Man of Steel opens in theaters in December 2012.
