John Barrowman's return to Doctor Who has 'already been discussed'

How cool would it be to have Torchwood's Captain Jack Harkness make a proper return appearance on Doctor Who? Really, REALLY cool. And it may yet happen, since the man who plays the great Captain Jack himself, John Barrowman, has revealed that his return has already been discussed.

In an interview with Zap2It, John Barrowman has revealed that the character's return to Doctor Who has been talked about with both the series' former showrunner (and current Torchwood boss), Russell T Davies, and the current man on the job, Steven Moffat.

Since when has it been talked about, exactly? The answer to that is: ever since Captain Jack's last "proper" appearance back in the 2008 season-three finale "Last of the Time Lords" (the one where, in a twist, it was revealed that Captain Jack would likely become the Face of Boe).

"I've always said that if I'm asked to go back to Doctor Who, I'll go at the drop of a hat. That's where Captain Jack got his beginnings. And it's already been discussed," Barrowman says.

But keen observers will point out that Captain Jack DID make a return appearance in "The End of Time: Part II," during David Tennant's swan song as the 10th Doctor in January 2010. True. But we're talking more than just a few seconds of screen time here.

"It's in the cards, but who knows whether it will happen?" Barrowman adds. "I like Matt Smith. He brings his own quirkiness to it. ... When a new Doctor starts, everybody goes along for the journey because they love the show. But then you attach yourself to that Doctor. There's a whole new generation who are now attached to Matt, and rightly so ... but David Tennant is my Doctor."

With Doctor Who now confirmed to have been renewed for 14 episodes next season, and with the unlikely return of both Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan as companions Rory and Amy in the TARDIS (they both have signed on for new projects for around the time Who usually films), maybe it's time to get Captain Jack back on board.

But then again, the idea of having Captain Jack Harkness and Matt Smith's 11th Doctor together in the TARDIS makes us think the universe would likely implode with the sheer awesomeness of it. (Maybe that's what truly made the TARDIS explode in "The Big Bang," last season's explosive finale! Just kidding.)

But what do you think? Is it time to get Captain Jack back on Doctor Who?
