NBC picks up Awake and Grimm—but NOT Wonder Woman

Despite learning harsh lessons this year with The Cape and The Event, NBC has once again picked up new shows firmly entrenched in sci-fi and fantasy for the 2011-2012 television season. Two winners of the pilot pickup lottery are Awake, an Inception-esque thriller formerly called REM, and the fairy-tale-themed Grimm.

David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman, on the other hand, did not make the cut.

Awake stars Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) as a police detective who finds himself living in two different realities after a terrible car accident. In one his son, played by Dylan Minnette, survives. In the other his wife, played by Laura Allen, lives. Awake was created by Kyle Killen and is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The series also stars B.D. Wong, Cherry Jones, Michaela McManus, Steve Harris and Wilmer Valderrama.

Grimm stars David Giuntoli as another police detective who learns that fairy-tale creatures are real, and it's his new job to protect humans from the mythological creatures. The series comes from Universal Media Studios and was created by Angel's David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf. Grimm also stars Bitsie Tulloch, Kate Burton, Reggie Lee, Russell Hornsby, Sasha Roiz and Silas Weir Mitchell.

In other NBC news, Chuck is still waiting for its official pickup, which will likely come today.

NBC will announce its fall schedule next week.
