To play Thor, Chris Hemsworth took a bite out of Mike Tyson

We know it's not an easy thing to portray a Thunder God, but what we would never have suspected was that the way to do it was to channel a heavyweight champion.

Chris Hemsworth, who'll be bringing Thor to life in Marvel's upcoming movie, recently said that the best way to wield the magical hammer Mjolnir was to mimic the moves of Mike Tyson.

Hemsworth shared with Hero Complex that:

"It's not the most practical thing, when you first come to it, to think of a giant, flat hammer as a weapon. ... Realistically, it wouldn't be weighted right for anyone to use it if the handle was only so long. So the main thing coming in was to make the hammer an extension of Thor. We had to develop a style of movement that was singular, really, to this character. We looked at Mike Tyson and that very low, powerful, very aggressive stance—a big-shoulder, big-hip stance that suggests coiled strength."

We wouldn't have picked up any of that from what we've seen of Hemsworth in the trailers so far. Guess we'll have to wait to catch him on the big screen to see whether we can detect any Tyson in him.

Thor hits theaters May 6, 2011.
