Prepare your scuba gear: Avatar 2 will be set underwater

Actress Michelle Rodriguez's tough-cookie pilot character may have died in Avatar, but that didn't stop the actress from revealing where the second film would take place—namely underwater. And if the movie's 3-D is as convincing as the first film's, maybe we should all get our scuba gear ready. Just in case.

Speaking to the Associated Press while promoting her new film Battle: Los Angeles, which is about an alien invasion, the 33-year-old actress revealed that James Cameron's highly anticipated follow-up to Avatar would take place underwater, taking viewers under the oceans, and that it will be "extraordinarily beautiful."

However, the actress is unsure whether Cameron will bring her character back from the dead in any capacity for the follow-up to the highest-grossing movie in history, though he apparently did say that he would bring back those who had survived the first film in some form. There had been previous hints from Cameron that Avatar 2 could perhaps take place on another planet from the same solar system as Pandora. There was also the possibility of taking the story into the oceans of Pandora, and this—according to Rodriguez—is the route the director seems to have likely chosen.

Filming underwater is a speciality of Cameron, who brought us Titanic, the Titanic documentary Ghosts of the Abyss and most recently the underwater cave adventure Sanctum 3-D.

What do you think? Are you ready to dive into the oceans of Pandora with Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana)?
