Arnold Schwarzenegger's mysterious next project? It's with Stan Lee

Ever since the former governor of California left office, there's been reams of speculation as to how he'd re-enter the pop culture landscape. Now the question of "What's next for Arnold Schwarzenegger?" has been answered. Boy, has it ever been answered.

As revealed on Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch blog, the onetime reigning king of the box office is joining forces with the co-creator of Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and Iron Man to hatch The Governator, an animated series and comic book that will follow an ex-governor who decides to take up a career in crime fighting. Lee explains further:

"The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he'll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger. ... We're using all the personal elements of Arnold's life. We're using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We're using his kids. We're using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor's office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood."

Yes, there will be an Arnold Cave. And a fleet of Arnold-ized vehicles. And a closet full of high-tech costumes that'll bestow upon Arnold a whole host of superpowers. And Smilin' Stan has tapped his awe-inspiring gift of acronymization for the Governator's nemeses: an evil organization called Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons—or, yes, G.I.R.L.I.E. Men.

The Governator won't be out until next year, but the kernel of the idea has been in Schwarzenegger's mind since he was first elected:

"When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about 'the Governator,' I thought the word was so cool. ... The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies. ..."

Hopefully, the show will be more than what sounds like a misbegotten combination of Batman and Leonard Part 6. Because otherwise ... wow.
