The reason Bill Murray isn't making Ghostbusters 3 is Ghostbusters 2

WIll Ghostbuster 3 EVER get made? The script's been done for a while now, but Bill Murray just can't seem to get around to reading it. And when Murray appeared on The Howard Stern Show this morning, he explained exactly why he's in no rush.

The main reason that skimming the script is so low on his list of priorities is how far Ghostbusters 2 veered from what he thought it would be. According to Murray:

I only made one sequel and it was Ghostbusters 2 and it didn't end up the way it was presented.

Murray knows how often a brilliant concept can turn into a so-so movie once the cameras start rolling, because before Ghostbusters 2 filmed, he was happy with it:

About five years after we did the first one, the clever agents got us all together in a room and ... we really are funny together, I mean they are funny people - Harold [Ramis] and Danny [Aykroyd] and myself, with Ivan [Reitman] and maybe one or two other people. We were just blindingly funny for about an hour or so and the agents, there was just foam coming off of them.

They had this pitch and Danny and Harold had concocted some story ideas... and it was a story, it was good story. I think I had even read one or two [scripts for Ghostbusters 2] that Danny had rolled out beforehand, but this one was a good one. I said, "Ok, we can do that one."

Apparently, the whole experience left him a bit gunshy. Murray sounded guilty for not getting around to the script ... but not guilty enough that it seemed he's likely to get around to the script anytime soon.

Do you think he ever will? Or will the franchise remain in limbo until Murray gives a definitive no, which would free up the studio to hunt down a new team of Ghostbusters?
