New details surface about Ron Moore's supernatural cop drama

NBC will be shooting a pilot for Ron Moore's latest, an ensemble police procedural that takes place in a world dominated by magic rather than science. We'd heard about this show before, but now we've got some more details to share.

What had initially been described as "an adult Harry Potter"—presumably because Harry Potter equals money to people at studios tasked with describing things—is beginning to take shape. Moore's show is called 17th Precinct, it's set in the fictional town of Excelsior, and NBC is committed to shooting the pilot episode.

Again, it's worth noting that Fox spent a boatload of cash shooting Moore's Virtuality pilot, only to unceremoniously kiss it off with little fanfare. It's also worth remembering that a show in which magic is an established part of an urban reality isn't new: The short-lived Dresden Files pulled it off, as did HBO's noir-flavored Cast a Deadly Spell a decade before it.
