Meet the 6 actresses who hope to star in The Dark Knight Rises

Christopher Nolan has been looking for two women to infiltrate Bruce Wayne's inner circle for a while—and now he seems to have zeroed in on a handful of candidates, both famous and fameless.

Nolan's Bat-films haven't been particularly kind to the women who appear in them, as both Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal were dismissed after just one outing as Bruce Wayne's doomed love interest Rachel Dawes. Now Nolan is looking to fill two roles: another love interest and the villainess Talia al Ghul, daughter of Liam Neeson's Big Bad from Batman Begins and, in the comics, the mother of Bruce Wayne's son, Damien.

Here are the actresses who've made Nolan's shortlist.

Anne Hathaway

Credits: Alice in Wonderland, Get Smart, Brokeback Mountain

Buzz: Clearly one of the best young actresses of her generation, she's an Oscar nominee who can do both comedy and drama and is—judging by her rather revealing role in Love and Other Drugs—fearless.

Odds: 3:2. Provided she doesn't price herself out of the running.

Jessica Biel

Credits: The A-Team, The Illusionist, Blade: Trinity

Buzz: Her constant second-banana-ness can't be doing her any favors, but she's a more physical actress than anyone else on this list, which could make her a formidable villain.

Odds: 5:1. Not sure if she can sell the internationality required for Talia.

Kate Mara

Credits: We Are Marshall, Iron Man 2

Buzz: The buzz around the Mara name is over her sister, Rooney, who's starring in David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. But Kate definitely showed promise in the otherwise thankless melodrama We Are Marshall.

Odds: 10:1. She'll have to have the audition of a lifetime to nail this one.

Gemma Arterton

Credits: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Clash of the Titans, Quantum of Solace

Buzz: She can sell the exotic and the refined. But, man, she has been in a lot of crap.

Odds: 20:1. She just signed on for the female lead of Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which might introduce a scheduling speed bump.

Kiera Knightley

Credits: The Pirates of the Caribbean series, Never Let Me Go, King Arthur

Buzz: This Oscar nominee can do whatever's asked of her, and she's got more genre experience than anyone else on the list.

Odds: 2:1. The only thing standing in her way is her familiarity.

Charlotte Riley

Credits: Wuthering Heights, Foyle's War

Buzz: Not much, really, considering that she's only been in a handful of British television productions.

Odds: Unclear. Do they improve because she's dating Tom Hardy, the Inception veteran already cast in The Dark Knight Rises?

So which actress are YOU rooting for?
