The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the Oscar nominations this morning, and as expected, Inception did well, collecting eight nods. But strangely, Christopher Nolan did NOT get recognized for directing, which makes us ask—who did those voters think was responsible for Inception, anyway?
Inception was nominated for art direction, cinematography, original score, best picture, sound editing, sound mixing, visual effects and original screenplay, but Nolan, who was ultimately responsible for all that, did NOT get a directing nomination. Darren Aronofsky, whose Black Swan received five nominations, on the other hand, DID.
Toy Story 3 received five nominations, and will be competing against Inception, Black Swan and seven other films when the Oscars are handed out Feb. 27.
Here's the complete Oscar ballot.
