REVEALED: Who will the Avengers be fighting in their 2012 movie?

Rumors have been flying around for months about which villain will pose a threat in the Avengers movie. Now a new trailer supposedly reveals who the main bad guy will be—and there may be more to come.

Ain't It Cool News broke the story that Marvel has secretly shot a trailer for The Avengers that will feature Thor's half-brother Loki as the villain. Loki, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston, is also a major player in this summer's Thor, and in the comics he has been a constant thorn in the side of both the God of Thunder and his pals in the Avengers for years.

But that's not all. Remember that supposedly discredited rumor that the malevolent alien race the Skrulls would show up in The Avengers as well? As it turns out, a source has told Latino Review that in the movie, Loki will use the Cosmic Cube (which we know is shown in Captain America: The First Avenger, out this July) to summon the Skrulls for an all-out war against Earth and the Avengers.

With an extraterrestrial threat as unstoppable as the Skrulls, it makes sense that the only possible way to defeat them would be for the world's superheroes (or Marvel's, at least) to join forces as the Avengers.

None of this is officially confirmed, but keep your eyes peeled for that Avengers teaser, which will most likely show up in front of both Thor and Captain America this summer. The Avengers opens on May 4, 2012.
