Why those Dark Knight Rises rumors you've heard could be wrong

What do we know about the yet-to-be-filmed movie The Dark Knight Rises? If the rumors are true, Batman encounters a villain who learns his true identity; meanwhile, Commissioner Gordon is ordered to capture Batman. And now we can confirm, yes, these rumors are absolutely true ... but not for The Dark Knight Rises.

As it turns out, the Caped Crusader has a busy schedule. When he's not fighting crime, he's starring in movies—as well as video games. And the plot we've described follows the plot of the upcoming video game Batman: Arkham City.

EW noticed the eye-catching similarities when the trailer for Batman: Arkham City was released at the Spike Video Game Awards.

The plot (which seems to be a retelling of the graphic novel Prey) makes sense as a movie, actually. EW says:

After all, the last Batman movie left us with The Dark Knight on the run from the cops, who believe him responsible for murders committed by district attorney-gone-loco Two-Face.

So it turns out all those rumors we've been hearing could have been about the game, and not the movie after all. Officially, the only elements that Christopher Nolan, the writer and director of The Dark Knight Rises, has confirmed are the title, the fact that certain familiar baddies like Two-Face and the Joker won't be appearing, and the fact that Tom Hardy has a role.

So if you want to see how Bruce Wayne protects his super persona, you can always play the video game, which will be released in late 2011. As for the movie, you'll have to wait for summer 2012 to learn whether Nolan has also referenced Prey.
