Viggo Mortensen vs. Javier Bardem? They're equally talented actors, and it would be difficult for any director to choose one over the other in a starring role. But looks like that's the very dilemma director Ron Howard is facing for The Dark Tower.
According to the New York Post, both Mortensen and Bardem are frontrunners to play Roland Deschain in an adaptation of Stephen King's epic series The Dark Tower.
Which of them would make the better gunslinger? If you've caught either of them in the movie theater, you'd know that both have experience as antiheroes and both have starred in westerns. In addition, both actors are award-winning thespians with international appeal.
However, Mortensen does have an advantage when it comes to epic productions with long shooting times. And that might come in handy, since the New York Post reports:
[The producers] plan to start with an epic movie, then continue the story with the TV series, followed by a second film, and then a second TV season showing gunslinger Deschain as a young man. Then, the third movie will end the saga with Deschain as an older man.
The New York Post says The Dark Tower "promises to be a blockbuster film and television franchise." When we consider the material, the director and the potential stars, we absolutely agree.
But which actor should win out? What do YOU think?
