Wasn't it only yesterday we told you that Warner Brothers wanted Robert Zemeckis to direct a live-action remake of the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz? Today we have an update from Zemeckis, and that's definitely NOT going to happen.
Entertainment Weekly reports that a source at the studio confirmed that yes, Robert Zemeckis did take a meeting regarding the Oz remake. However, the filmmaker will not pursue the project: "The reports that Robert Zemeckis is doing The Wizard of Oz are absolutely false."
Apparently, discussions regarding the remake are still "very preliminary and nebulous," and it may be put on the back burner for the moment—whatever that really means.
Zemeckis is now currently working on a 3-D remake of the classic Beatles animated feature Yellow Submarine.
With most of you (at least according to your comments on yesterday's post) being pretty much against the whole idea, do you think the project should be shelved completely? If not, who would you like to see helming the Oz project instead of Zemeckis?
