The lads from Geeks vs. Nerds aimed to settle one of sci-fi's longstanding debates: Who's the better rogue smuggler, Star Wars' Han Solo or Firefly's Mal Reynolds? And guess who was called in to make a case?
Last Saturday, at Halifax, Nova Scotia's HAL-CON convention, the Geeks vs. Nerds improv troupe held a panel that wanted to determine, once and for all, who was the better deliverer of illegal goods in a sci-fi milieu, the scruffy-looking nerf-herder or Captain Tightpants.
The GvN crew pleaded their respective cases, as did members of the audience, but the final word came from Nathan Fillion himself, who called in to the panel and listed the four ways the Serenity's captain trumps the dude who drives the Millennium Falcon.
Among them: "Malcolm Reynolds is a man with a plan. Certainly, plans do not always go his way, but he is a man with a plan. Solo, on the other hand, is making it up as he goes along."
Fillion chimes in at around 24 minutes into this salty, occasionally NSFW podcast.
