Thai superhero trailer like Power Rangers shot by John Woo

Apparently, the foreign-language vigilante movie The Red Eagle is a Thailand mixture between The Dark Knight and Kick-Ass. All we know for sure is that the trailer is made of awesome.

At first, you get the feeling that The Red Eagle is like a Power Rangers movie shot by John Woo, what with all the blazing guns and slow motion. But when you get to the point where there are dudes in leather costumes and capes atop massive skyscrapers ...

Here's the official synopsis for this reboot of the decades-old Thai franchise, which hits theaters over there on Oct. 7:

A nuclear power plant is about to be commissioned upon the signing of corrupt and power hungry politicians. The citizens are in frenzy, as they oppose this plan but they cannot do a thing about it. And so, a hero was born, chasing down the criminals and the corrupt, killing of whatever threatens the city's well being. He leaves a card with his name simply as "THE RED EAGLE". However, the hero becomes the hunted, when the politicians send out their best defense, known as "THE BLACK DEMON."

I've gotta think this is what Hollywood western directors like John Ford must've thought when they saw Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai for the first time. This is what it looks like when another culture absorbs an inherently American art form, processes it with its own cultural signifiers and kicks out something both new and familiar at the same time.

And I've gotta wonder when we'll see it stateside.
