Robot teaches itself to fire arrows: 1st step in robot uprising?

Apparently, scientists don't watch science fiction films. Otherwise, why would they build a robot that not only can operate a firearm, but systematically learns to improve its aim?

Researchers at the Italian Institute of Technology have build the iCub, an adorably offensive little robot—what with its totally PC Native American headdress—equipped with a bow, arrow and a computer algorithm called ARCHER, which stands for Augmented Reward Chained Regression. ARCHER allows the iCub to use a camera to process the bull's-eye image, analyze failed attempts and adjust angle, force or trajectory to compensate.

Yet another innovation for the "Yeah, this can only end well" files.
