New live-action Yamato trailer: Epic battles, wave motion gun!

This new trailer for Japan's live-action adaptation of the classic animated series is chock-full of big guns, valor and Wave Motion Cannons. It's a minute and a half of geek crack.

For those of you unfamiliar with Space Battleship Yamato, it sort of like the proto-Battlestar Galactica—a cartoon that followed the survivors of an alien attack on Earth who built humanity's first faster-than-light-capable ship and took to the stars for salvation.

The trailer has everything you could want in a 90-second tease: explosions, dudes with wavy hair, space combat, honor, old warhorses going down with the ship, the frakkin' Wave Motion Cannon unloading, more explosions. (It also has Steven Tyler's horrifically clichéd theme song, "Love Lives," so it's not perfect.)

Space Battleship Yamato is out in Japan on Dec. 1. No word yet on when it'll hit our shores ... but it's not soon enough.
