V's ratings improve: Will it survive FlashForward?

Good news for ABC's alien-invasion series V: ratings for the most recent episode on Tuesday night climbed, improving its chances of a pickup.

That's the news on The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog:

"V" (6 million viewers, 2.4 preliminary adults 18-49 rating) rose 14% in the overnights, a percentage that will dip slightly in the nationals due to a couple minutes of "Lost" overrun. Still, showing any uptick at this crucial stage could help seal a second season pickup (unlike fellow bubble shows like Fox's "Human Target," which dipped for its finale, and NBC's "Chuck," whose most recent episode matched its series low).

It's been speculated that ABC will renew only one of its two sci-fi shows, V or FlashForward, which has lower overall ratings.

Guess if you can't show aliens eating guinea pigs, flashing a little skin can't hurt, right?
