News briefs: Firefly' 'Wash' joins Transformers 3; New Pooh due

Fan-favorite actor Alan Tudyk (Firefly/Serenity, Dollhouse) has joined the cast of Michae Bay's Transformers 3 in an as-yet-unspecified role, The Wrap reported; Tudyk joins a cast that includes John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Patrick Dempsey.

Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov will direct Spook's Apprentice, an adaptation of Joseph Delaney's children's book—the first in the Wardstone Chronicles six-part series—about a 13-year-old who's the seventh son of a seventh son and learns about wizardry from a forbidding old spook, Variety reported.

Disney announced release dates for the animated movies Winnie the Pooh (July 15, 2011) and Reboot Ralph (March 22, 2013 in 3-D), Variety reported.

James Wong (Final Destination) is set to write and direct a remake of Yasuo Inoue's Japanese horror movie The Neighbor Number 13, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the original Japanese film, Rinjin 13-go, tells the story of a young boy whose witnessing of an extreme case of schoolyard bullying disturbs him so profoundly that 10 years later, as a young man, he is still obsessed with righting the wrong, even if doing so takes him onto questionable moral ground.
