Funnyman Adam Sandler to turn a cool invasion short into a movie

The latest sci-fi short to be picked up for development as a feature film is Pixels, the whimsical alien-invasion video from French filmmaker Patrick Jean—and his new partner is none other than the King of Gross-Out Comedy himself, Adam Sandler.

The pickup—the latest in a trend of shorts-to-movies that includes The Raven and The Gift—was reported by The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog:

The much-buzzed-about short featuring 1980s video game characters attacking New York City, is heading for the big-screen.

The French filmmaker behind "Pixels," Patrick Jean, has teamed up with Adam Sandler's production banner Happy Madison to develop a big-screen take. The team is in talks with Columbia, where Happy Madison has its first-look deal, to set up the project at the studio.

The plan is to make a Ghostbusters-style movie.

Not sure how they'll stretch this out to feature length, but you gotta love the original, below, right?
