Avatar creator James Cameron, speaking in South Korea, said that he will announce a release date for an expected sequel in a few months.
He added that he estimates it will take about three years to make the sequel, 18 months fewer than it took to make the first, the Associated Press reported.
The new film will also be made in 3-D, Cameron added.
"Quite simply, where they had a choice, the audience was selecting for the best possible way to see the movie," he said. "And they saw 3-D as the premium viewing experience."
