Why you should care about Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives

The news we were really hoping to hear today was that Sean Bean's pilot for A Game of Thrones, which is awaiting a series pickup order from HBO, finally got the go-ahead—but we can't have everything! So we'll happily settle for this—

Bean will be starring opposite Luke Goss in Death Race 2: Frankenstein Lives, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the prequel, we'll finally get the origin story for the character named Frankenstein, a convicted cop killer (Goss) in a declining American empire where a racing reality show is about to be born in the country's corrupt prison system.

Also in the cast are Lauren Cohan, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo and Frederick Koehler. Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the 2008 movie, will be co-producing with Jeremy Bolt. Roel Reine will direct.

Bean was last on screen as Zeus in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, but is probably remembered best as Boromir from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
