Sherlock director to turn King Arthur into Star Wars

Here's an intriguing rumor: Guy Ritchie, the former Mr. Madonna who directed the action hit Sherlock Holmes, is supposedly attached to direct a new version of Excalibur, the King Arthur story, "in the tone of Star Wars."

That's the report on

Concurrently in development at WB is a Warren Ellis written version of the King Arthur legend/myth—also called Excalibur. However, this take (in treatment form—currently out to screenwriters) is based on the comic-writer's own ideas.

Now Pajiba reports it has its own high-profile director attached—Guy Ritchie.

This is not to be confused with a similarly named movie, a remake of the classic John Boorman film from 1981, to which Superman Returns director Bryan Singer is attached.

So how would Ritchie's Star Wars-like Arthur story work? We'll have to wait: He's committed to a sequel to Sherlock for now.
