Star Wars' Jango Fett joins the cast of Green Lantern

A bounty hunter turns hero-maker as Temuera Morrison, best known as Star Wars' Jango Fett, joins the cast of Warner Brothers' Green Lantern, along with filmmaker-actor Taika Waititi, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Waititi will play the best friend of Hal Jordan, the test pilot who wears the superpowered ring of the interplanetary police force known as the Green Lantern Corps, while Morrison will portray Abin Sur, the member of the Corps who is instrumental in Jordan becoming the superhero in the first place.

Waititi first gained attention for writing and directing Two Cars, One Night, which earned him an Oscar nomination in 2005. His first feature, Eagle vs. Shark, won him best screenplay at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and landed him work directing episodes of Flight of the Conchords.

Production begins this week in New Orleans on the 3-D film, which stars Ryan Reynolds as the DC superhero. The movie is set for a June 17, 2011, release.
