The new DVD set of the first 10 episodes of ABC's FlashForward features a look at what's in store for the sci-fi series, which returns with new episodes on March 18, and we got an advance look at it. (Spoilers ahead!)
"A Look Ahead" is a bonus feature on Disc 2 of the set and begins with Mark (Joseph Fiennes) getting chewed out by Wedeck (Courtney B. Vance) for defying orders and going to China. Mark is suspended and forced to see a psychiatrist.
But no worries: Mark isn't going to let a little thing like suspension keep him from solving the mystery of the blackouts. He photographs the Mosaic board with his cell phone before he leaves the office.
Meanwhile, it's looking like the beginning of the end for his marriage. Olivia (Sonya Walger) is giving her report of the kidnapping of Dylan Simcoe, which ended the previous episode. She accidentally refers to Lloyd Simcoe (Jack Davenport) as Mark, her husband. Freudian slip, anyone?
At this point, we're just waiting for Olivia and Lloyd to hook up, as in her flash-forward. It keeps getting closer as Mark sees in the surveillance video of the kidnapping. After Lloyd saves her life, Olivia gives him a hug for a little bit too long, no matter how traumatic the kidnapping was. Mark even seems to recognize the brewing chemistry as he takes his wife home.
This is a promising start to the remainder of the show's first season. It emphasizes character instead of plot, plot, plot. If Mark and Olivia go home and actually deal with things instead of trying to avoid them, that would be swell.
Some more possibilities: Perhaps Mark is frantically searching the Mosaic board in his flash-forward because he's out of the bureau and snuck back into the office. Maybe the guys coming after him are legitimate law enforcement. That doesn't explain the masks, but remember he's drunk, so we can't be sure what he's really seeing.
Also, Simon (Dominic Monaghan) is waiting in one of the offices looking at surveillance video. What's he doing working with the FBI now?
