We remember Poltergeist's Zelda Rubinstein

In light of the passing yesterday of Zelda Rubinstein, the diminutive but powerful psychic at the heart of 1982's Poltergeist, we thought it would be nice to see a video of her dramatic entrance, which you can view below.

Rubinstein played Tangina, the psychic who helps the Freeling family retrieve their impossibly blond daughter, Carol Anne, from the clutches of "The Beast" in the classic haunting movie directed by Tobe Hooper and produced by Steven Spielberg.

Here's what Spielberg told the Los Angeles Times about Rubinstein's role:

"I thought it would be neat to show that someone's size had nothing to do with her psychic powers. ... Good things can come in small packages, and that's certainly true of Zelda."

The 76-year-old actress died at Barlow Respiratory Hospital after a series of health problems, Variety reported:

Rubenstein also appeared in "Frances," "Sixteen Candles," "Teen Witch" and "Southland Tales," and was a regular on the TV series "Picket Fences."

The role in Tobe Hooper's 1982 hit "Poltergeist" was written specifically for her, according to co-writer.

Go into the light, Zelda.
