Release date is about all there is for Abrams' next Trek?

The follow-up to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie already has a release date—June 29, 2012—but it still doesn't have a script, a director or even a storyline.

At least, not one that producer J.J. Abrams is willing to talk about. Yet.

"There's a release date, but we're still just working on the script," Abrams said in a group interview on Monday night while promoting his Fox TV show Fringe. "The idea is that they have faith in this team, so I hope we don't let them down."

He won't say whether he'll again direct, either: "I don't know. There's no script yet, so I'm not sure."

Is there a drop-dead delivery date for a script?

"Well, I'm sure there is one, I just haven't figured out what it is," Abrams said somewhat disingenuously. "But you can sort of work backwards and figure out we probably would need something—s--t! Now! Soon, yeah."

News that a rebooted Spider-Man might go up against another Trek movie didn't faze Abrams either. "I would think that there's room for all of it, so, you know," he said.
