The kudos keep piling up for last year's big sci-fi blockbusters: Most recently, nominations for best screenwriting, and now nominations for best editing for Avatar, Star Trek and District 9.

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) nominees for best-edited feature film are Avatar, Star Trek, District 9, The Hurt Locker and Up in the Air. The ACE award winners will be named on Feb. 14.

In other award news, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) chose Avatar's Mauro Fiore as a nominee for its best-picture nominations. And the Oscar short list for the makeup category was announced and includes District 9, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, The Road and Star Trek, as well as non-sci-fi/fantasy noms The Young Victoria and II Divo.
