UPDATED: Buy the Apple Macintosh owned by Gene Roddenberry

[Update: Profiles in History issued a correction to its announcement: "Macintosh was, indeed, presented to Gene Roddenberry by Apple. There is no doubt about this. The conflict between the photo and the serial number is as follows. This computer, given by Apple to Mr. Roddenberry, is an early production Macintosh 128 (#776), which was then upgraded by Apple for Gene to a Macintosh Plus-thus the model number / serial number / panel that "belongs to" a Macintosh Plus. The 0001 led us to mistakenly believe that it was the first one off the line.]

Geek explosion! Profiles in History is set to auction off the first Apple Macintosh Plus, serial number 0001, which was given to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry by Apple. Man, tell people that George Lucas wrote the first Star Wars draft on this thing, and you've got the trifecta.

It'll be auctioned off on Oct. 8 and 9, and it's got a surprisingly low estimated sale price, between $800 and $1,200. That low? Do you guys know that this is a combo of Apple nerdery and Star Trek nerdery? You might want to add a zero to the end of that estimate.
